Warshaw Blumenthal
is always looking for fresh talent. Whether you’re a
traditional marker artist, photo comp retoucher, digital
artist, or a mix of it all, we want to see your work. We
review all submissions, and try to give as much feedback
as we can. If you are interested in being represented by
Warshaw Blumenthal, please follow these guidelines.
Step #1 Look at the website
These artists are all full time freelance storyboard
illustrators. The storyboard and comp samples on the
website are from real jobs with real deadlines. Many of
the storyboard frames were completed within one hour.
The quality of the work on the website is the level at
which you will be competing for jobs. Storyboard work is
a fast paced, demanding profession. Please be honest
with yourself about your skill level before you submit
the work.
Step #2 Initial portfolio review
Before you send a large portfolio please send us an
email with 10-15 color storyboard samples. Please make
sure they are 4x5 or 5x7 at 150dpi. Compress them in a
Zip or Stuff file and email them to:
ryan@warshawblumenthal.com
In the body of the email, please include your phone
number and address. If you are located in NYC, please
let us know if you are willing to work on site at the
agencies. It’s also helpful to know if you are full
time, part time, learning the business, or a vet in the
field. A brief explanation of your working methods and
speed is helpful, so we know how exactly to market your
talent. If we choose not to move forward with
representing you, please don’t get discouraged. Keep in
touch, and send us samples as you improve. As soon as we
think your style is marketable, we’ll bring you on.
Step #3 Secondary portfolio review
Once we’ve chatted on the phone, and gone over rates,
you will be provided with a user name and login to
upload a Zip or Stuff file of your full portfolio.
Please send a variety of color samples including;
Individual people, groups of people, kids/babies, cars,
animals/pets, environments, food, and products, etc.
Also include some samples of B/W line as well as B/W
tone. If you have animatics, please include them in this
portfolio. Your storyboard and comp samples will be used
in our small portfolio books, large presentation
portfolios, and our website. The excess will be stored
in our database for job specific marketing.
File guide:
-
Files should be individual frames. No collages and no
boards.
-
Frame size can be anywhere between 4x5 and 8x10 at
150dpi.
-
Frames should be borderless. No black frames and no
rounded corners.
-
No Bleed. I don’t want to crop all your images for you,
or retouch the images to fill the frame.
Step #4 Website Once we have all the images, we will start building a
page for you on our website. It might take a little back
and fourth before we get your page right. We may ask for
more samples to fill in the missing areas.
Step #5 Work Once we’ve committed to each other, and you’ve done your
first job, we will need your W9 along with your first
invoice. We prefer to be invoiced within a day of your
job completion. Your invoice should include a job
number, which is unique to each job. Please don’t use
the date as your job number, because this can cause
bookkeeping issues.
Step #6 Keep in touch Please keep us in the loop about your vacation plans as
well as your availability. If you’re not working, let us
know. This can help you get more work.
